Platinum released a limited edition of special edition Preppy Wa Modern Maki-e fountain pens in 2021. The pens have decorative barrel designs inspired by maki-e artwork, which is traditionally made using metal powders sprinkled over wet lacquer. For this affordable yet beautiful recreation, Platinum used screenprinting instead. The Preppy Wa Fountain Pens are now available again in a new color, black with yellow trim. The Preppy highlights feature cartridges that are easy to install and refill, which can be done in three different ways: by eyedropper, converter, or standard fountain pen filling systems. Because the highlighters are translucent, they're also a great way to teach stationery novices about the basic components of a fountain pen and how it works. The Preppy's cartridges are also compatible with Noodler's bottled highlighter ink, which is an economical and eco-friendly alternative to frequently disposing of and repurchasing highlighters when they run dry.
